Old Wulfrunians v Kynoch

The first XI played host to high-flying Kynoch in the Premier Division's game of the day, boosted by the return of Nik Wooldridge following his recovery from a bosted face injury.

Right from the start of the game Captain James Skedgel set about testing out the visiting keeper.  First he was unlucky with an acrobatic scissor kick that the keeper somehow kept out and then he saw a diving header kicked off the line by some guy who was standing around picking his nose.

Wulfs continued to dominate the first half and Rob Stirton had two glorious chances to open his account for the season but failed to hit the target with a free header and a shot from ten yards out.

The best entertainment of the first half once again came in the fairly rotund shape of Simon Hardle.  After winning possession with a leg biting challenge, The Waard then proceeded to unleash his full array of skills that destroyed his marker so much that all he could do was swing aimless punches like a beaten boxer in the fifteenth round of a gruelling fight.  He survived with just a yellow card as the referee took pity on him.

After a lot of positive talking at half time, Wulfs almost found themselves a goal behind one minute after the restart but were glad to see a shot bounce back off the crossbar.

The balance of power slowly started to swing in Kynoch's favour as they fine tuned their formation to cut down the effectiveness of Liam Evans' foraging up front.

As the game moved in to the final fifteen minutes, and with Jason Scott having to be withdrawn because of injury, Kynoch went for broke and threw caution to the wind as they attempted to become the first B'ham AFA side to beat Wulfs since about 1973.  Only a combination of heroic goalkeeping from Tim Tipton and some wasteful finishing prevented the victory as ninety-nine one-on-ones were spurned.

Wulfs embarrassingly had a chances to win the game in the dying stages but David Thompson did the decent thing and spooned his header high, wide and not very handsome.

In the end this was the perfect wake up call for next weeks top of the table clash against Village.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 0  Kynoch 0.
