Village v Old Wulfrunians

The premier divisions game of the season saw first placed Wulfs take on second placed Village in a game that could be pivotal with the home straight in sight.

After a couple of below standard performances in the last couple of games, changes had to be made both on and off the pitch.  On the field Mark Tipton was restored the sweeping position with Jason Scott pushed up front while off the field Ken Southern was appointed physio and Tash Davies was added to the back room staff.

From the moment we arrived at the Aston University ground things were much better organised and this transferred out on to the pitch.  Despite losing Neil Parkes to a season ending slipped disc as early as the fourth minute, Wulfs were a much improved team.

It was a surprise therefore that it took until the thirty-third minute for Wulfs to take the lead.  Captain James Skedgel picked the ball up on halfway with no danger in sight.  Several drops of the shoulder and swivel of the hips later, with opposition players strewn in his wake, Snedger hit a thirty yard shot that rasped into the net before the keeper had chance to move.

From then on Wulfs were never going to lose the game.  In fact, they were never going to concede.  The only time the Wulfs management team hearts skipped a beat was at a late corner for Village.  It wasn't that Village looked like scoring, it was the fact that Irish Rover Carson Tweedie was taking the corner and he has been the thorn in our side on more than one occasion since leaving us.

All in all it was a comfortable victory as can be from a top of the table clash and, despite the injury to Parkes, confidence was once again sky high.

Best wishes for a speedy return Parkesy.

Final score: Village 0  Old Wulfrunians 1.
