The first XI took to the field for the away game against Kynoch with some perplexing words of encouragement from manager Pete Tipton ringing in their ears. "There are seven games left and I want a minimum of seven wins" said the hard taskmaster Tipton.
Another part of his pre match speech was to make sure we didn't give away too many corners or free kicks as the opposition were generally all two foot taller than our players. Cue a succession of corners and free kicks for Kynoch but fortunately the goalkeeper and defence were strong enough to stand up to the aerial barrage.
One moment of pure Jase 'the Ace' Scott almost cost Wulfs a goal when his attempted back pass to Tim Titpon fell woefully short but the strikers attempted lob flew way over the bar.
In between the madness Wulfs were creating good chances of their own. Steve Rich was first to go close when he sent a header flashing wide. Then, from a corner, David Thompson laid the ball back into the path of Nik Wooldridge but his goal bound shot was headed clear on the edge of the six yard box. Tony Morrison was the next to go close when he fired wide of the post after being put through by Myles Fenn.
It seemed only a matter of time before one of the many chances created found its intended destination. John Muir saw a shot pile into the side netting and Myles Fenn tried his luck from long range to no avail. The final chance of the first half saw a James Skedgel ball into the area laid back by Tony Morrison to Jon Hart but his volley flew over the bar.
When the half time whistle blew, Pete Tipton's thoughts were all about missed chances and the possibility of being caught on the break. Seconds later his team talk took a slight change when one of the Kynoch midfielders took exception to seventeen year old Chip Southern by head-butting him and was immediately shown the yellow card.
Now the talk was of how the ten men would come out stronger and make it especially difficult for us to go forward and how we had to be patient and make them run themselves into the ground. Unfortunately this didn't happen as well as it should have done and chances were harder to come by in the second half.
Things might have been different had Wulfs been awarded a penalty five minutes in when Nik Wooldridge sent a header goalwards before getting clattered by the home keeper.
The best chance of the half came when Chip Southern's cross was headed across goal by Steve Rich for John Muir to fire at goal from six yards out. Unfortunately his shot again went wide.
To their credit Kynoch left two players up front and were a constant threat to the Wulfs rearguard, especially David Thompson who was taken out late and had to be replaced.
The final frustrations for Wulfs came in the last ten minutes when Simon Hardle was introduced to the action and almost immediately sent two teasing balls across the face of the Kynoch goal but no player was on hand to apply the final touch.
In the end a draw was by no means a disaster and the point was rich reward for the hard working ten players of Kynoch.
Final score: Kynoch 0 Old Wulfrunians 0.
