Sutton United v Old Wulfrunians

There was a certain amount of trepidation about Winz's Warriors second visit to Sutton within a month, particularly after the first encounter ended in a 7 - 0 reversal.  However, a committed, disciplined and focused performance saw Wulfs gain sweet revenge.

Selection was always going to interesting and Winzor's revolutionary ploy of playing Jamie Perkins at sweeper raised a few eyebrows but the addition of Nigel Pearson was more than welcomed.

After harsh words beforehand, Wulfs started very well, forcing Sutton to match their 3-5-2 formation within fifteen minutes.

Jon Hart had a half chance which was deflected for a corner as Wulfs dominated possession.

However, Sutton slowly worked their way into the game and Tristan Stephens made an excellent save after a free kick deflected off the wall to a Sutton player ten yards out.

The second half saw Wulfs facing the wind and the slope and they were forced to defend for long periods.  A well struck was fortunately deflected wide and a hooked attempt from the edge of the box grazed the outside of a post for Sutton but Wulfs were still creating openings on the break.

The deciding goal came after seventy-four minutes, a headed clearance by Jamie Perkins reached James Lane who caused confusion in the Sutton defence before Brendon Turner ran on to the loose ball and finished superbly with his left foot.

Wulfs stood firm for the last fifteen minutes and can now look forward to the final on April 16th.

Final score: Sutton United 0  Old Wulfrunians 1.
