With Shane Evans jogging on to the pitch as the referee started the game the omens were not good for the second XI and sure enough, after twenty-five minutes they were 3-0 down to Silhill.
Tristan Stephens saved the centre forwards header after just ten minutes but a Silhill midfielder did well to follow up and score from a tight angle.
Soon afterwards Shane Evans gave Jamie Perkins a weak pass which was intercepted and the Silhill forward executed a fine chipped finish.
After twenty-five minutes Perkins put a weak header on to a free kick which came out of the sun and again a Wulfs error was punished with a good finish.
Although they were 3-0 down the seconds hadn't played badly, Brendon Turner was pulling the strings in midfield and all three forwards were working hard.
They gained their just rewards after forty-one minutes when James Lane spanked in a loose ball from the edge of the box with his left foot.
At the start of the second half Silhill put over a great chance to make it 4-1 but from then on Wulfs were on top. James Lane had the best chance when the ball squirmed away from the keeper but his shot was blocked and Ben Kimpton hit a long shot over.
Wulfs were showing the necessary spirit which has been missing at times this season but it nearly went too far when a rumble took place in their area but it was nothing more than a bit of macho posturing from Winzor and Evans.
Wulfs gave themselves hope with three minutes left when Jamie Perkins headed a James Lane free kick across goal and Ben Kimpton finished.
There was plenty of drama to follow. Adam Woodhall nailed a shot from twenty-five yards which the Silhill keeper saved excellently and when Wulfs sent the special teams on for the corner, Dave Winzor put a free header wide.
Wulfs deserved a point but it was not to be.
Final score: Old Wulfrunians 2 Silhill 3.
