The replay of the Bill Hill Cup quarter final saw Old Wulfs take thirteen players to the Aston University pitches to face Village 'D'.
A good playing surface, taking into consideration the dodgy weather recently, saw Wulfs passing the ball around their opposition and creating some decent chances early on.
With both Lawton's and slim line Danny Patrick running things in the middle of the park, Bhupesh Patel with Adam Campbell alongside him getting into some good positions, the Village defence resorted to break dancing on their backsides while sitting on the ball to try and distract the forwards from scoring.
Any attack that Village started was dealt with by a defence who had spent most of the first twenty minutes watching with amazement the number of corners that Wulfs had that were put directly on to the head of William Hague in the village back line.
On the half-hour mark Village managed to get into the Wulfs penalty area, Pav Kosla challenged for a harmless cross. The village forward went up for the ball and seemed to jump off at a very strange angle, so strange that Steven Hawking would have had trouble figuring out how it was given as a penalty.
Step forward Keanu Reeves, dive to the left no worries. Justice done. Fifteen minutes till half time, probably another six Wulfs corners for William to head away. Centre forwards not playing to the whistle, a good shout for our own penalty gone and we go in 0 - 0.
No changes for the second half either in personnel or how much Wulfs dictated the play. Attack after attack was spurned. No lie, I lost count of the number of corners, half chances, full chances and six yard misses that were not used to put the game to bed. When Bhupesh was uprooted in the area and the referee played a very strange advantage instead of blowing you got the feeling we were on a road to nowhere.
Even with things happening the way they were the last things you would have said was that Wulfs would concede as the defence had been under no pressure. With 7 minutes to go, one hopeful punt sent forward went over the head of a Wulfs defender to fall to the village centre forward to place the ball into the corner of the net.
The next six minutes were played totally in the village half but it wasn't going to happen.
An excellent performance by Wulfs right up to the point of scoring. This game wasn't lost just on Saturday but two weeks ago in the first leg when a two-goal lead was given away. But saying that you can't miss this many chances and expect to go through.
Final score: Village 'D' 1 Old Wulfrunians 0.
