The third XI entertained Ilsley OB for the reverse of the fixture just before Christmas when Ilsley had their goalkeeper sent off for head butting his own centre half just five minutes into the game.

Injuries had robbed Wulfs of key players, none more so than Gareth Lawton who had been the game saver after coming on as sub in the home fixture and had scored a goal so good that it earned him a place in the team of the week.

For the most part the first half was a dull affair with the only real chance of the first forty minutes well saved by Wulfs keeper Darren Sangha.

Just when it looked like the game would be deadlocked going into the half time break, Ilsley took the lead when  a debatable call by the Wulfs linesman allowed their forward to run in one-on-one with Sangha and he made no mistake with the finish.

The standard of play failed to improve at the start of the second half as Wulfs failed to have a single player worth putting forward to the team of the week.  As they had failed to register a single shot at goal Gareth Lawton and Paul Janos were introduced into the fray.  The almost immediately paid dividends as Janos found himself clean through with just the keeper to beat but he failed to find the target.

With Wulfs improving in the final third of the game Ilsley hit them with a body blow as a loose ball was despatched by their forward after a quick break out of defence.

All in all it was a bad day at the office and to make matters worse, Gareth Lawton is still struggling from the injury he picked up following a meaty challenge with Chris Tranter in the festive period friendly.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 0  Ilsley OB 2.
