Welwyn v Old Wulfrunians

The third XI travelled to lowly Welwyn and started like a house on fire, culminating in the opening goal on nineteen minutes for Danny Patrick.  A good shot from Bhup Patel struck the post and Patrick was Johnny on the spot to smack  the rebound into the roof of the net.

After being on the receiving end of several close offside decisions Adam Campbell finally managed to grab his first goal for the club to double Wulfs advantage.  Put through by Patel, he ran at the keeper and side-footed into the net.

For the rest of the half Welwyn found a bit of life but nothing to trouble new keeper Dave Scorer.

The second half started as the first had with Wulfs knocking the ball around with style.

On fifty-four minutes Ashley Postance and Bhup Patel had a very civilised chat about a possible lack of desire for the game on behalf of the latter.  After a few hugs and kisses the two combined for Patel's first goal  of the game when he ran on to a Postance through ball to slot home.

Although the score was 3 - 0 Welwyn were still challenging hard in midfield and playing a very good offside trap.

The fourth goal was the usual Postance shot, and a very light deflection that took the ball at least seven yards from where it was originally aimed to leave the goalkeeper diving to the wrong side of the net.

Welwyn pulled a goal back from a corner which was disappointing as a clean sheet would have been very welcome.

Wulfs grabbed a fifth goal after a Welwyn player threw the ball back toward his keeper but Bhup Patel nipped in to finish from a tight angle for his second goal of the game.

There were some very good performances and this was a very good win to put Wulfs back into the promotion shake up.  Man of the match was Paul Fothergill who ran the midfield for Wulfs.

Final score: Welwyn 1  Old Wulfrunians 5.
