Old Wulfrunians v Welwyn

As usual for the third XI the opposition came out strongest and put some decent moves together.  In fact it was Welwyn who got the first goal of the game, from a corner that wasn't dealt with.  The Welwyn player had too much time on the edge of the area to bring the ball down and put away in the corner of the net.

Wulfs then dominated the rest of the first half.  First Minty Postance did his usual trick of getting booked and then scoring.  He latched on to a Bhupesh Patel through ball, rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Matt Gould was next on the score sheet, lifting a Pav Khosla pass over the oncoming keeper.

A few more chances came and went for Wulfs to leave them only 2-1 up despite having nearly all of the play.

The second half was, again, all Wulfs with both Jim Lawton and Bhupesh Patel missing good chances.  This wasn't a big problem as Matt Gould stepped up to score another two goals.  The first came after some excellent play down the right.  Ashley Postance moved out wide to collect the ball and then spanked it cross field toward the edge of the box.  Pav Khosla laid it back to Bhupesh who played it into the path of the attack minded midfielder Gould to pop into the net.

Gould's third came from some more good play from the Wulfs midfield, moving the ball from left to right before Jim Lawton took a shot that Gould got on the end of before Postance to complete the third XI's second hat-trick of the season.

The rest of the game was all Wulfs and how the score wasn't added to owed more to slack finishing rather than Welwyn defending.

In the end a 4-1 victory on the eve of the minor Cup final is definitely a big boost after last weeks disappointing home defeat against Billesley.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 4  Welwyn 1.
