Old Wulfrunians v Wake Green Amateurs

For the second week in a row the third XI were missing the comedy match warm up duo of Gaz "the wand' Lawton and Phil 'the puppeteer' Gardner and with the top goal scorer Ash Postance also unavailable through injury they faced a tough visit from the Wake Green side they had narrowly beaten in the Minor Cup final only two weeks ago.

In the words of Dave Griffiths at half time 'we started like a train' ripping through a much changed Wake Green team from two weeks ago and when Bupta Patel latched onto a beautiful hoof up field by Griffiths Junior and slotted home to make it 1-0 after only 10 minutes it looked like Wulfs were in for an easy afternoon.

The second quickly followed after a nice passage of play and good run by Pav Khosla, the ball found its way back to Pav who decided to have a go from 25 yards out, the resulting shot took a nasty deflection and ended up in the back of the net giving Wulfs a deserved 2-0 lead.

The Wulfs train then ran off the tracks and the defence came under increasing pressure and just before half time when the ball broke to the Wakes striker 25 yards out, he somehow with the outside of his boot managed to lob Big Dave Scorer in goal to make it 2-1 it looked like Wulfs could be in trouble.

But after a rousing half time team talk by Dave Griffiths, Wulfs came back out fighting.  Wake Green continued to press but with James Sutton in outstanding form at the back flying in for every challenge and Matt Williams dominating them in the air the Wulfs attackers were left to finish them off.

Pav Khosla'a first goal may have been a bit lucky but his second was just magnificent, the ball broke to the edge of the Wake Green box and Pav strolled up and caught it as sweet as a ball has ever been hit on the half volley and drilled it across goal and into the top corner leaving the keeper and his own team mates stunned!!

Wulfs made it 4-1 when Wakes lost the ball on the edge of the Old Wulfs box and Paul Fothergill ran the length of the field ghosting around virtually all the Wakes side before calmly slamming the ball into the top corner of the net from 15 yards out.

Bupta Patel finished the scoring to make it 5-1 when he ran from inside his own half and latched onto a through ball, the whole Wakes side had stopped and were appealing for offside leaving Bups with only the keeper to round, he tried his best to bring Bups down and after shrugging off Danny Patrick who tried to rob the goal for himself he rolled the ball into the empty net from a yard.

It was a great performance by all and a great result, more of the same on Tuesday night please.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 5  Wake Green Amateurs 1.
