Billesley United v Old Wulfrunians

The third XI traveled to Billesley United desperate to keep up their tremendous run of not letting any team do the double over them this season.  Billesley proved to be a very useful outfit when they won at the Memorial Ground a couple of weeks back and the game also contained a bit of needle so Wulfs had to be at their strongest and best to get anything out of this game.

Unfortunately, along with manager Dave Griffiths, several players were unavailable for the trip and so they had to go in to the game with a bare XI including a couple of players carrying injuries.

Wulfs started the game ok but their forwards kept getting caught offside which had the effect of breaking up any good play.

They defended the first half pretty soundly but did call on big Dave Score to keep the score at 0-0 on more than one occasion.

The second half saw Wulfs create only one half chance of note with Paul Fothergill nearly latching on to the best cross ever by an Old Wulfs player at that time of night in that part of Birmingham from that side of the pitch and with that make of boots on.

After holding out valiantly Wulfs gave away a penalty which was duly converted and they then struggled, especially after Gareth Lawton sprained his ankle.  With no replacements he was forced to play up front but couldn't run...............I know what you're all thinking.

Strangely Wulfs still tried to pass the ball through midfield but either the Billesley linesman suffers from armintheairitis or the Wulfs forwards never look along the line.

Billesley added a second goal after a Wulfs player was rodded in his own half by the Billesley winger who took the ball on and crossed for the forward to bundle home.

Time ran out, darkness fell and the third lose twice to the same opposition for the first time this season.

One comment for the third team players "I told you they were Australians!"

Final score: Billesley United 2  Old Wulfrunians 0.
