The fourth XI played their first game for five weeks and opened brightly against a spirited Parkfield team. With less than a minute on the clock an Andy Carey forty yard free kick screamed against the post. It was a sign of things to come as the ball rebounded to safety.
Chances came regularly as Wulfs pressed forward and it was no surprise when they took the lead when Gary Dimmack threaded a pass through for Richard Marsh to score with a cool finish.
Not for the first time this season this was the signal to take the foot off the pedal and Parkfield took advantage with a great strike from thirty yards to ensure the scores were level going in to the break.
Wulfs opened the second half as brightly as the first with Rami Labib, Paul Janos and Nick Ling all going close to regaining the lead. Ling's shot from the edge of the area rebounded to Janos who was only denied by an excellent save from the visiting keeper.
The pressure had to tell and when Andrew Skedgel found space on the left, his precise cross was flicked on by Carl Hitchon for Sam Cole to fire home.
The game was surely as good as over but full credit to Parkfield who responded positively and stunned Wulfs with two late goals, one a thirty-five yard screamer and the other a penalty.
Overall this was a game Wulfs should have won and probably would have done if luck had gone their way. Hopefully the good fortune will have been saved up for the Holder Cup semi final next weekend. Team spirit remains high and a cup final is just what is required.
Final score: Old Wulfrunians 2 Parkfield Amateur 3.
