The fourth XI were strengt....er....weakened this week by the absence of old stalwarts Gary Dimmock and Andy Carey. This meant a recall for Rami Labib at the back and a shift around in midfield with Richard Marsh coming to the centre and Sam Cole dropping back to right midfield/wing back. Rob Edwards also dropped down from the second XI meaning Nick Ling switched to the bench.
The fogies' absence also meant that Tash Davies came out of managerial retirement to try and inspire the fourths to their first win in 64* games.
Wulfs scored two minutes in, Paul Janos with a rasping drive from forty yards that must have reached speeds of at least 2 or 3 mph. The keeper couldn't keep it out such was the ferociousness of the shot as it slipped through his grasp, bounced of his head and bobbled over the line.
Wulfs were determined not to concede straight after scoring as had been the case so many times already this season. Unfortunately, they only held out for ten minutes before the equaliser came. Willclare's short, fat striker did exceptionally well on the bye-line before crossing for an advancing player to nod home.
It was all Willclare, with Wulfs struggling to string anything together and get the ball out of their own half. They went 2-1 down after thirty-one minutes, sloppy defending leading to the second goal.
It stayed that way until half time although Wulfs were lucky not to go further behind. A harsh team talk at half time from Tash brought home a few home truths - we were all rubbish. This was further confirmed when we went 3-1 down two minutes in to the second half.
It stayed that way until the introduction of the two substitutes and a switch of formation to 4-4-2 on the hour mark got Wulfs going again. They couldn't get them going enough however and the game ended 3-1 to Willclare.
Wulfs had been outplayed by the better team and the fact that Andrew Skedgel was their most attacking influence from central defence summed up the game.
Good performances on the day by Skedge, debutante Rob Edwards and Stu Drury were overshadowed by the fourthXI's 19th* consecutive defeat. Come on lads - we really aren't that bad!!!
* Please note, this is not a true representation of results - it's just I could not be arsed to look on the website and work them out properly.
Final score: Old Wulfrunians 1 Willclare Fujitsu 3.
