The fifth XI faced Wake Green Amateurs for the second successive week in a game that had to be replayed because Wakes had apparently played an illegal player in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season and some other club had put in a complaint. We knew nothing about this until earlier this week when we were informed we had to play the game again.
Still, after last weeks impressive showing in the 3 - 3 draw away from home, hopes were high for a three point haul from a very unexpected source.
During the first half Wulfs started slowly and found themselves a goal behind early on.
Wulfs then came back strongly and equalised before half time through Ian Phillips and now felt they were in with a good chance of winning as they went into the half time break.
However, twenty seconds into the second half they found themselves 2 - 1 down having been caught on the break.
Again Wulfs fought back and forced a second equaliser through Anzer Nabeel but again failed to build on the momentum they had gained.
As they game wore on Wakes became the stronger and regained the lead before adding a further three goals on the break to end up winning convincingly.
All in all it was a disappointing result from game Wulfs expected to get something from.
Final score: Old Wulfrunians 2 Wake Green Amateurs 6.
