Old Wulfrunians v Sutton United

Desperate for three points, the fifth XI faced the old age pensioners of Sutton United who weren't very happy about the 3.00pm kick off time as tea at the retirement home is served at 4.30pm.

Wulfs faced a minor crisis prior to kick off as two of the posse members failed to show, so despite playing for the 4th XI on the same pitch minutes earlier, Chris Nicholls and Roscoe Hale stepped into the starting XI with Sean Walkden also making the extra numbers on the bench.

From the kick off Wulfs looked far more composed but the old timers of Sutton United were creating all of chances but couldn't find a finish despite the defending of Danny Cheal while Gordon 'The Legend' Brown's was offering an excellent work rate up front.

The turning point of the match came just before half time.  Despite some good defending from Rob James, Pete Oakley, Rich Lovegrove and Roscoe Hale in the Wulfs goal, a corner which Wulfs failed to clear ended up in the back of the Wulfs net.

Despite dominating the first forty-four minutes of the half, Wulfs went in to the break one behind and this just about summed up the fifth XI's season.

Sutton started the second half more composed than the first and were now playing with a lot more composure than the first half, passing the ball around and giving Wulfs the complete run around.

Goal number two was inevitable when Roscoe Hale was left one on one with the Sutton striker who chipped the on rushing keeper who was unlucky not to fingertip the shot over.

Once again the fifth XI had gone from dominating a mid table side for  forty-four minutes to a complete collapse within forty-six minute period.   Fitness and the ability to put a foot on the ball and keep possession playing a big part.

Despite losing again the fifth XI are still only five points adrift of Village and Handsworth G.S.O.B at the foot of the table.  With Bustleholme and Village left to play they XI look destined to play division 9 football next season.

Ref watch:- When nothing's going your way, the referee's not going to give you much either.

Moan of the match:-  Gordon 'The Legend' Brown for offering to shove the flag up the Sutton forwards a***.  Nice one Gordie.

Taxi of the match 1:- Danny's fifty pence header with only the keeper to beat.

Taxi of the match 2:- Chris Nicholls failure to hit the target when he latched onto a loose ball twenty yards out, end result three points to Wigan.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 0  Sutton United 2.
